Ph.D., Associate Professorship, Vice-director of the Centre of Excellence IT4Innovations, Division of the University of Ostrava, Institute for Research and Applications of Fuzzy Modeling (Ostrava, Czech Republic)

Topic: "Fuzzy relational compositions, their extensions and their application to classification tasks."

He received the M.Sc. degree in Applied Mathematics in 2002, the Ph.D. degree in Fuzzy Modelling in 2008, and successfully passed the habilitation for the Associate Professorship (“Docent” degree in the Czech Republic) in 2012. Since 2005, he is a vice-director of the Centre of Excellence IT4Innovations – Division of the University of Ostrava – Institute for Research and Applications of Fuzzy Modeling, Czech Republic. Since 2009, Martin Štěpnička is a member of the Board of the European Society for Fuzzy Logic and Technology (EUSFLAT) for four consecutive terms and in 2017, he has been elected the President of this Society. Furthermore, he is a member of IEEE and also of IEEE Computational Intelligence Society. He is an area editor of JCR (Q1) journal Fuzzy Sets and Systems journal and a guest editor of several special issues of JCR journals, e.g. Fuzzy Sets and Systems, Neural Network World, Acta Polytechnica Hungarica or Kybernetika. He serves as a reviewer to ca 15 JCR journals. He is a frequent member of program committees of international conferences such as e.g., EUSFLAT, SOCO, FSTA, SMPS or IPMU. His publication record contains 60+ publications indexed in the Web of Science out of which 15+ are in JCR journals with 300+ citations and h-index equal to 14.

Research interests include mainly fuzzy modeling, especially fuzzy inference systems and fuzzy relational equations, fuzzy approximation and computational intelligence in time series forecasting..
